Some Amazing Facts!

Beethoven's deafness began in his twenties, but he wasn't totally deaf until in his fifties

Fur Elise was actually written for Therese Malfatti - 'Elise' was often used to refer to a loved one

Beethoven never married, but after his brother's death he was a co-guardian of his nephew Karl

Beethoven was once mistakenly arrested as a tramp due to his rather dishevelled appearance!

In the space of 40 years he moved lodgings at least 70 times!

The famous opening of the 5th Symphony is morse code for V and was used as a victory symbol by the allies in WW2.

Ode to Joy from the 9th Symphony is used as the European National Anthem
